OUR LITTLE LIBRARY
We have a little library.... and it's the CUTEST THING EVER. About three blocks from the house, we just love it. I wonder who made it, who waters it, who watches over it, but I don't wonder about where the books come from, because we're planning on dropping some off today.
It wouldn't be summer without BERRIES.
For over a decade now, my husband and I have been picking berries on Sauvie Island, a gorgeous little island full of farms that sits just north of Portland in the Columbia River.
Our favorite farm there is Columbia Farms for strawberries and raspberries, and then we pick our blueberries at the Sauvie Island Blueberry Farm. The reason we go pick our own fruit is not just because it's always around $2 a pound (the strawberries were $1.60 a pound), but because we know where our food is coming from and we like digging in the freezer in December and remembering yet another awesome trip to Sauvie when we picked those raspberries or those strawberries... and they are DELICIOUS.
So this year we picked around 50 pounds of strawberries at Columbia Farms (it took a little over an hour! sweet!), but with about half of those Charley made freezer jam for the year. Then on another spectacular picking day, we picked 30 pounds of blueberries (in 45 minutes! A new record!) at the Blueberry Farm and then we headed back to Columbia for 20 pounds of the SUPER, FAT raspberries they have -- that are just amazeballs. (Charley also made a few batches of freezer jam out of those and that *stuff* is to die for!)
And then there are the SUNSETS.... holy smokes, people.... I am not lying when I say it's like living in a freaking postcard here. I know this house is a little more rent than we'd like to pay, but the trade-off (other than OUR AWESOME NEIGHBORS) is the view. The spectacular view.
(Most of these were taken from our attic windows.)
Enjoy! Now I need some coffee.... hmmm..... where can I get some of that.... ;-)
